Cytogenetic Analysis: This is a hyperdiploid human cell line. The modal chromosome number was 48, occurring in 80% of cells, and the rate of polyploid cells was 3.4%. Three marker chromosomes are common to all cells. M1 and M2 [der(14)t(8;14) (q24;q32)] were probably derived from the balanced translocation between del(8) (p21.1;p21.3) and N14. The third marker, M3, is ?der(8)t(8;?) (p21.1;?). Most cells had three copies of N7. Both normal X and Y were clearly identifiable.

Although deposited with the ATCC as a plasmacytoma cell line, DNA fingerprinting has shown this line to be a derivative of Jiyoye (ATCC CCL-87), a Burkitt's lymphoma cell line.

Propagation: ATCC complete growth medium: The base medium for this cell line is ATCC-formulated RPMI-1640 Medium, Catalog No. 30-2001. To make the complete growth medium, add the following components to the base medium: fetal bovine serum to a final concentration of 10%.

Subculturing: Protocol: Cultures can be maintained by the addition of fresh medium or replacement of medium. Alternatively, cultures can be established by centrifugation with subsequent resuspension at 3 X 10 exp5 viable cells/ml.Maintain cell density between 3 X 10(5) and 3 X 10(6) viable cells/ml.Do not allow the cell density to exceed 4 X 10(6) cells/ml.
